A carbon sink is anything that absorbs more carbon from the atmosphere than it releases – for example, plants, the ocean and soil. In contrast, a carbon source is anything that releases more carbon into the atmosphere than it absorbs – for example, the burning of fossil fuels or volcanic eruptions.

Carbon farming, unlike business-as-usual forestry, is a green business model that rewards forest owners for taking up Climate-Smart forestry practices.
The following are examples of Climate-Smart forestry practices for an effective carbon farming: • Afforestation and reforestation that respect ecological principles favorable to biodiversity. • Restoration of peatlands and wetlands that reduces oxidation of the existing carbon stock and increases the potential for carbon sequestration. • Restoration of forest lands that have low productivity or poor biodiversity by thinning and removing low-vigor and deteriorating trees, thus providing the light and space required to grow larger, healthier trees.
Blockchain is, in a nutshell, an encrypted, distributed database. Every transaction is recorded in a totally unalterable way. The blockchain nodes are in charge of validating and recording transactions by strict consensus, so that a majority can discard any manipulation attempt.
